Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi, has admitted he misses facing rival Cristiano Ronaldo, as the former Real Madrid forward gave “prestige” to LaLiga.

Ronaldo left Madrid to join Serie A giants Juventus last summer, after winning three consecutive Champions League titles with the club.

The Portuguese has continued to save his best for Europe’s elite club competition, with a hat-trick against Atletico Madrid firing Juve into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The draw subsequently ensured Messi and Ronaldo cannot meet unless both clubs advance to the final.

“I miss Cristiano. Although it was a bit difficult to see him win trophies, he gave La Liga prestige.

“Juventus are a great candidate to win the Champions League since the arrival of Cristiano, and the match against Atleti must have given them a lot of confidence,” Messi told FM Club 947 in Argentina.

Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed he contemplated suicide while he struggled to deal with the pressure of making it as a professional footballer.

Adebayor, 35, says he was under so much strain when he was trying to make the grade as a player in France he started to plan to end his own life.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City star admits the expectation of people back home in Togo was getting too much for him to deal with as a 16-year-old playing for Metz.

Speaking to the Mail, Adebayor said: “I was 16. All I wanted to do was help my family out but they put huge pressure on me. I could not cope with it.

“When a family is poor, everyone is poor and there is huge solidarity. People will take a bullet for you. But when one makes it, it is like you owe everyone.

“At Metz I was on maybe £3,000 a month. My family asked for a house worth £500,000. The club were tired of me because of my behaviour.

“I remember sitting on my bed one night and thinking ‘What am I doing here? Nobody’s happy with me, so what is the point of living?’ “There was a pharmacy below my apartment, I bought packet after packet of tablets.

“They did not want to sell it to me but I said it was for a charity in Togo. I made the preparations, I drank all the water. I was ready to go.“Then I called my best friend at midnight. He told me not to rush, that I have things to live for.

“‘You have the potential to change Africa. I thought ‘You are a dream-seller and I am not buying any dreams right now.’

“But he took me out of the moment. I thought God must be keeping for something.”

Adebayor went on to enjoy a successful career at club and international level, also enjoying spells with Monaco, Tottenham, Real Madrid and Crystal Palace.

David De Gea may leave Manchester United during the summer, as the club continue negotiations over a new contract, The UK Sun reports.

The Spain keeper wants £350,000 per week, with French giants Paris Saint-Germain happy to meet his demands.

Man United activated the one-year extension in his contract earlier this season, but want to tie the 28-year-old down to a longer deal.

De Gea is thought to be open to stay, after an upturn in fortunes under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was appointed permanently last week.

However, PSG are willing to offer £60million for the stopper to test Man United’s resolve.

The Parisians are also interested in Ander Herrera, whose contract expires in the summer and has yet to agree new terms.

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has hinted that Danny Welbeck may still have a future at the club.

Welbeck suffered a severe ankle injury in November and has been out of action ever since.

The 28-year-old signed from Manchester United for £16million in 2014 and is on course to be a free agent in June.

But as Emery admitted that although Welbeck is training again he’s unlikely to return before the season ends, he revealed there will be talks about his future, after their final Premier League fixture away to Burnley on May 12.

“Danny is starting to touch the ball again – and to work on the pitch. His progress with such a big injury is going very well.

“I think it’s difficult for him to play any matches this season, but maybe the doctor will say he can come and train with us in the last weeks of this season. And then after that, his individual thing will be to speak with the club (about his contract),” Emery said according to the UK Mirror.

You Cant Compare Tottenham To Liverpool’- Mauricio Pochettino

Ahead of a potentially season-defining trip to Liverpool this weekend, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed it is unfair to compare his side with opponents still challenging for the Premier League.

Pochettino takes third-placed Tottenham to Anfield on Super Sunday with 15 points currently separating the two teams, although the north Londoners do have a game in hand on their hosts.

However, the two clubs have completely different philosophies, according to the Argentine.

“You cannot compare (Liverpool and Tottenham),” Pochettino said in an exclusive interview with Soccer Saturday.

“When he [Klopp] arrived at Liverpool, it was only about focussing to try to build a team to be able to compete and be a real contender with other teams.

“Our philosophy is completely different and we cannot compare our two projects, they are on a completely different level.

“In the last two transfer windows we cannot sign one player, it is like we are banned like has happened with some clubs now!

“Because we are focussed on different things, that is why we are different, and we must be focussed on operating in different ways, but always being competitive as football is the most important thing in this company.

“Because they have an unbelievable squad (they are challenging for the title) and they are a team who every season were adding more quality. So it is normal that Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea were building to win and be a real contender.”
