Trenches Slang Meaning In Nigeria

Rappers often utilize the term “trenches” in their lyrics. A trench is a low-income neighborhood with a history of crime and violence. Only rap artists use trenches. Although the term is gaining popularity elsewhere, it is on the rise in Nigeria more so than in other countries.

The quick harrassment by SARS police and NDLEA operatives is largely responsible for the widespread adoption of Trenches as a language among young people. Most young people who speak this language are actually con artists operating online. Regulars often boast that they can’t wait to get back to the trenches because they adore the quiet there.

You may recall that I mentioned that criminal activity and violence have been documented in trenches, but that it is extremely difficult for law enforcement to make an arrest there. This situation is analogous to a community in which police do not enjoy absolute authority. The Kabiyesi or Baale is in charge of the trenches.

Many famous rappers have referred to the “Trenches” in their songs, including Kanye West, Eminem, Lil Durk, , , , , , Luxury Tax, J. I., the Prince of New York, and YoungBoy Never Broke Again.
